Lexi's First Publication

Lexi's teacher sent home a packet for The Reading Rainbow Young Writers and Illustrators Contest. Her teacher thought that this was something that Lexi would enjoy and she was right! When I sat Lexi down to write her story, I opened up her writing tablet and noticed she had already written a 3 page story so we decided to use that. Invented spelling is admissible, so I did very little correcting. The following is her submission. Sorry for the poor quality. I took pictures of the pages.

"The Two Princesses
Written and illustrated by Lexi Ann Lewitt"

"Once apon a time, there was a dragon. He lived outside of a tawer and he blowed fire."

"The tawer belonged to a king and a queen and princesse's."

"But there was a wicked witch nearby. The witch was trying to catch the princesses." The princesses in the picture are screaming, "AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA"

"The witch put the princesses in the dungeon. The princesses stuck now."

"The wich is gone catch the king and the queen too. The princesses tryed to get out...but the witch came bak." The witch in the illustration is saying, "Oh queen Oh king Where are you?"

"The witch put the king and the queen in with the princesses. They are trapped naw."

"Then the princesses' fairy godmother came to the rescue."

"But then princes came to marry the princesses and they lived happly ever after."

Here's a shot of her working diligently on the piece.

Lexism of the week

Last weekend we went to Medieval Times as a Valentine's gift to me. We had a great time and the kids were very well behaved considering the length of the show. At one time, though, Lexi pulled a classic lexism that I thought I'd share. The knights were fighting in ground combat using swords and spiked balls and such when Lexi turned to me and said something. I couldn't hear so I told her to say it into my ear. Of course she whispered and I couldn't hear, but when I did finally catch what she said it killed me and made every penny spent worthwhile. What did she say, you ask?

"Mommy, can I go out and help? I have imaginary Pokemons."

CLASSIC!!!

Lexi's New Shoes & Skill

Lexi needed some new sneakers. This time around, she wanted shoes that tied. She picked these out for the fact that I told her we'd be able to keep them cleaner than another pair she was mulling over. The hot pink shoe laces helped the decision as well. Anyway, she began wearing them on Wednesday and as of yesterday she is a bona fide, Grade A, shoe tying genius! Check out the video below.

I love Valentine's Day!!!!

We celebrated Valentine's Day one day early mostly because I wanted the girls to have their gifts for tomorrow and I wanted them to open them together. With Stefan's wacky work schedule, only one of us gets up with them in the morning while the other sleeps in. Tomorrow is one of my days to raise at first crow. If Stefan wanted to watch them open their gifts, they'd have to wait until after school. No fair!!!! So, for the aforementioned reasons they got their gifts today. They each got a pair of Cinderella Crocs with cute Jibbitz to adorn them and crayons, and Lexi got a soccer shirt while Abby got socks. They were thrilled and threw their Crocs on their feet immediately.

I got Stefan some Under Armour shirts--one for cold weather and one for warm weather--to wear under his armored riding jacket. This was something he just mentioned in passing when he first started riding because a coworker highly recommended it. They're pricey and he would never splurge, but after hearing him complain about the jacket sticking to him this summer, I thought it would be nice for him to have (especially when the weather warms up). He didn't remember telling me about this so long ago and was amazed I would think about it. I should've taken all the credit for my creativity but I told him that he did in fact tell me months and months ago.

Finally, and in my opinion the best of all, Stefan got me/the whole family tickets to Medieval Times for this Saturday! Within the last year we finally got a local location and I keep forgetting about its existence until I see a commercial for it. The commercial came on the other night and I mentioned I'd like to go again and Stefan took that idea and ran with it for Valentine's Day. The last time we went to something like this was the first time we went to Gatlinburg for our winter getaway. It was Dolly Parton's Dixie Stampede and I couldn't help but think that Lexi would love that. With Abby being the animal lover she is, I'm certain she'll love it too. Can you tell I'm excited?!?!

Lexism of the week

I have been fighting a cold for about a week. For that matter, so has Stefan. Last Thursday my first class was canceled and it didn't take a whole lot of convincing to stay home and rest up. After Stefan left for work and Abby laid down for her afternoon nap, I decided to rest my weary eyes. Meanwhile Lexi was hard at work. Prior to my nap she went through all of Abby's pretend groceries asking me if I liked this food or that food. I had no idea what she was up to. Anyway, when I woke up she surprised me with all the tools to take care of her sniffling Mommy.

First, she surprised me with a gift...

...which turned out to be a pair of slippers and all the groceries I said that I liked.

Then she made me dinner...

...which consisted of Peanut M&Ms in a bowl on a plate in a baking pan (which I'm sure resembled a "breakfast-in-bed tray" in her mind) and she squirted some apple white grape juice from a juice box into a cup (because she's not allowed to pour from the bulk-sized bottles we by from BJs). Notice it is all in her plastic dishes? Because she's not allowed to handle our glass dishes. So thoughtful!!!

All of this was well and good, but what I really needed was this...

But that's not all. She proceeded to set up a "sick bed" for me in Daddy's recliner. She pulled an ottoman up to it and placed a box of tissues as well as a jar candle to keep me warm.

Finally she dragged out a blanket and draped it over the chair, but Abby decided this was for her and not me.

What a great little nurse...and yes, I did feel a little bit better afterward.

Picture Day

We went to the picture people today to get family portraits done. I've said it before and I'll say it again...I love this place. Abby, who does not like to be confined, was fussing whenever we were posed having to hold her in our laps. The best shots we got of her were candids. At one point, they were trying to get some solo shots of Lexi and Abby would trot into the background. I'm sure the photographer loved us (<--sarcasm here). Overall I'm am thrilled with the results.

This is the best picture of Stefan and me since our wedding. The last time we got pics done of us was when Lexi was 6 months and it was at this place and well...you get what you pay for.

Here's one of the whole family.

Here's one of the girls together

Here's one of Lexi being a poser.
