Moving Day

Current mood: tired

Today, Stefan's brother, Faron, closed and moved into his new home in Georgia. I stood in for Stefan who was supposed to help with the actual moving but who had to work late last night. I'll tell you what. After waking up at 6:30, getting Lexi ready for school and taking her there, sitting through two classes (one of which mentally broke me down to a level that I haven't been in awhile), and helping load and unload one of these trucks, bringing the kiddies home and getting them ready for bed 13 hours after my day began...I am EXHAUSTED. I didn't mind helping and I hope that he didn't get too frustrated with me and my weak (although stronger than before I joined this place ) arms.

Lexi was excited to see that he is officially a Georgia resident. When he showed her which room would be hers for sleepovers, she started setting up house. She placed her favorite book on the night table and her stuffed puppy dog on the dresser. She did her best to help, but let's be frank she is 5 and her attention span/tolerance for the whole ordeal was pretty short. She gave him his first house warming gift - a platter with her hand print and Abby's foot prints that said "Welcome Home Uncle Faron February 2007" along the edge. I'll have to do another for our house because I liked how it turned out so much. When we left, she asked him if she could come for a sleepover tomorrow. It was sooooo cute.

To explain the mentally draining aspect previously mentioned when I spoke of school, I turned in a composition in Spanish last Thursday. When the teacher returned them today, the teacher said that most of the class got Cs or Fs. My heart sank. When I got mine back, it was a C. The teacher then said that anyone with less than a B, would have to write a new composition of 425 words due Thursday and that he would average the two grades. I need more time than that to write a brand spanking new composition, but I guess you gotta do what you gotta do.

Tomorrow, I'll get me butt kicked by my Wellness Coach this place. After what I did today and what I'm sure to do there tomorrow, I'm sure I'll be sore this time tomorrow. Such is life!

I guess I should start on my composition now. Any ideas on how to write a 425 essay on grammar? Talk about your dry subject matter!

Lexism #2 (belated and out of order)

It has been brought to my attention that Lexism #2 somehow did not get posted after it was written and is now lost forever. For the life of me, I cannot remember what it was even about. So to satisfy the anonymous person mentioned in my previous post, I now give you the delayed Lexism #2.

While we were away in Pigeon Forge, Lexi stayed with Nana and Papa. Little did she realize that this also included Uncle Faron since he is officially living with his parents until he closes on his house next Tuesday. Uncle Faron never comes empty handed and this time he came bringing a puppet stage as a late Hanukkah present. Together, Lexi and Faron made many puppets using brown paper bags.

When we went to pick up the girls, Lexi and Faron put on a puppet show. Faron had a dog puppet (that oddly resembled Lou) and Lexi had a raccoon puppet. Now, here's a little bit of necessary background info; when Lexi pretends to be talking for dolls or stuffed animals in pretend play, she talks in a high voice and out of the side of her mouth like a ventriloquist. It is very difficult to understand her when she does this. When she and Faron were putting on the show, they had a few exchanges with the normal how-do-you-do's in which I suspect Faron was for the most part guessing what Lexi was squeaking out.

Then Lexi turned her raccoon to face Faron's dog and said, "I can't understand you."

"Tell me about it," Faron answered.

Guest Book

I'm curious who actually looks at this. So if you're reading this, please use the comment option on this post as a sort of guest book so I can see who you are and what you think. If you don't want your comment published, just let me know. Thanks.

I laughed until I cried....

I laughed...
During Abby's lunch today, I realized that I have not taken much less posted a picture of her toothy grin since she got teeth on top. Here are the pics that were taken this afternoon. Some will, of course, go on the "goofy face" page o the scrapbook. I'll let you guess which those are.

"I'm the drool monster. I'm gonna get you. Roarrrrrrr!!!!"

"Cheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeesy"

"No paparazzi. Gimme that camera!"

...until I cried

Lexi awoke at 3 am this morning with a "big dream" (translated: nightmare). She was feverish, but I wasn't sure if it was just because she was worked up from the dream. Today we dosed her with some Motrin, and she seemed to be her normal self. She rode her scooter around the common area in front of our house, we went to the playground, she played in her playhouse, we went for a walk, and we met my parents for dinner. At dinner is when she started acting peculiar. She was very quiet and timid. At one point, she was shivering like she was cold. She also wanted to be cuddled a lot (I didn't mind this too much).

By the time we left the restaurant, I knew for sure it was fever-related. Confirmation came moments later when she fell asleep before we could leave the parking lot. Abby looked on and laughed at her "Big Sissy" snoozing in the car. I don't think that Abby believed Sissy ever slept the way she was giggling!

Anyway, when we got home I took Lexi's temperature and it was around 100 degrees and she was complaining of a sore throat. She cried through the entire bedtime ritual and she didn't even want to talk Daddy like she does every night at bedtime . Whenever she talked about the way she felt, she would start to cry. I don't think she'll be going to her swim lesson in the morning. I just hope we can make it through the weekend without the need to take her to urgent care. Seeing her like this makes anyone want to cry...okay, maybe just me.

Lexism #3

I threw things off last week when I posted Lexism #1 on Monday and then Lexism #2 on Friday (because I was still out of town this Monday). Now I have someone (whose name shall remain anonymous) tell me that I need to post another. I aim to please, so I guess Lexisms will be posted on Fridays.

Board vs. Bored

Lexi has been out of school this week. Monday and Tuesday she seemed to be enjoying the time off. Wednesday, her enthusiasm for "vacation" was underwhelming. The things that had been entertaining her earlier in the week were now overused and over-rated. Wednesday afternoon she came to me and asked if I would play a board game with her.

"Are you bored?" I asked.

"No, a BOARD game!" she replied.

"You can't play a board game unless you're bored, Lexi. Are you bored?" I asked again.

"No! I want to play a board game."

This exchange went on a couple of minutes before you could literally see the light bulb turn on in her mind when she finally understood that I was teasing her. We then played a board game. It was not boring. And she won.

Lexi bonus reel

Thursday when I came home from school you could tell Lexi had an agenda. She again asked to play a board game. When we went into the closet to pick one, she spotted the jewelry-making kit her Nana and Papa gave her for Hanukkah. We made a collar for her baby panda bear that doubles as a bracelet for Lexi when baby panda gets cycled out of her favorite toy of the week collection. We also made a headband for Lexi.

Here's the headband...

Here's Lexi with baby panda and their respective bling, bling.

(The dirt on her nose was not snot, it was the result of licking a huge lollipop that my parents brought home from Disney World - much cuter than snot)

Swimming lessons, snow, and falling hair

Saturday, Lexi started swim lessons for the first time in the indoor pool of the Y that I belong to. She's been looking forward to this for weeks. As per her usual, she built her anticipation the entire time, but when it came time for THE day, she crumbled. When they called her name to go into the pool area, Stefan walked with her and she flaked saying that she needed to go to the bathroom - her usual routine when she's asked to do something she doesn't want to. After her field trip to the
lavatory, she went in but only if Stefan went with her. He catered to her as she remained crouched into a ball with her back to the other kids in her class. It wasn't until I text messaged him telling him to come out to the viewing area or she would never open up that he left her. I knew that she would never learn to trust her coach as long as she has Mommy or Daddy to fall back on as this is the exact way she acted at dance class. Not to mention the fact that she would think that this should be the routine for future lessons. Nope it had to stop. So, after my message to Daddy he reluctantly came out to the viewing area and Lexi stopped her sulking. As always...Mommy knows best!

After the swim lesson, we swooped home to pick up the dogs and the trip gear and take the kiddies and pups to Nana and Papas. Once the hand off was complete Mommy and Daddy headed off to the mountains. The drive wasn't too bad, but it did start snowing just outside of Knoxville. The flakes went from super small to huge before we finally made it to our cabin in the mountains of Pigeon Forge. The first night the roads got bad and when we tried to leave the cabin to get a bite to eat, we could not get down the mountain because cars were spinning out like crazy. We conceded and headed back.

Meanwhile, with only a few packets of oatmeal and grits (a southern delicacy I have yet to acquire the taste for), I had visions of the movie "Alive" when the survivors started eating the backside flesh of the deceased for nourishment. I told Stefan that if I died of starvation, he could eat my butt. With a slight chuckle, we decided that we would head to town to get some food from the store so if we were snowed in Sunday we would have to resort to eating butt. We made it down the mountain and were able to stock up on enough to keep us the weekend if need be. This is what we awoke to Sunday morning (which by the way melted in the early afternoon although temperatures remained in the freezing range).

It was a nice weekend, but all good things must come to an end. We left around noon on Sunday (delayed one hour due to a couple of cars the found themselves in a ditch and thus blocked traffic in both directions leaving the cabin). We stopped by the outlet mall and got some really good deals for clothes for the girls. Then we drove home and picked up the girls.

I went to school this morning while Stefan took Lexi to the dentist (she has two loose teeth by the way). My mom watched Abby and my dad took the dogs to the groomer. I think when we scheduled the day we may have bitten off more than we could chew. We handled it none the less. After school, Lexi and I went to return some Peter Pan peanut butter (we had two jars) and get some groceries. I suggested that we get the haircut she's been asking for and she agreed. She wanted it like mine, but Daddy says that is too short, so she settled for this. Turn up the sound and press the arrow to play.

And if you can't play that...

Here's the front...

Happy Valentine's Day Part II

Current mood: happy

My Valentine

Last night, Stefan came home with the most beautiful bouquet of roses, daisies, and lilies (all my absolute favs) and a card for Valentine's Day.

It was a nice surprise considering our gift to each other is our getaway we are taking this weekend to the mountains. We'll have to see how that goes because even Atlanta is expecting snow Saturday, so you can image the condition of the mountain roads in the Smokies. It may just be a quiet weekend here in the homestead.

Stefan took the day off today although it was spent much like any other day - divide and conquer. This morning he took Lexi to school while I got Abby ready for her 9 month well check ( more on that later). He came home and took a shower and we both left the house - he to go back to Lexi's school to help with V Day crafts and me to take Abby to the doc. I intended to go to the gym after the doc, but Abby had other plans. She fell asleep on the way there so I decided to come home.

When Stefan returned, I went to the Y while he attended to Abby, then when I got home he went on a quest for paperwork that is needed for Lexi's speech therapy. Anyway, we didn't get to spend much time together, until he cooked dinner - a lovely filet mignon, with a loaded potato and veggies. Yummmm......

Big Girl Abby

For Christmas, Abby got her first sippy cups. She wasn't ready for them but I've tried a couple of times since to no avail because all she would do was chew on it. Yesterday I tried again and she actually drank from it...that is until I tried to show her how to hold it on her own. Then she wanted to do it all by herself without any of my assistance with very little success.

"Oh sippy...if only I could figure out how to get you to my lips"

"Wait...what are these handle thingies for?"

"Ah sweet success!!!!"

"Success realized is often short-lived"

As for Abby's well-check...she tips the scales at 19 lbs 6 oz and has outgrown her acid reflux (we think). The doctor says that she looks good and that she is beautiful but we all knew that already. When she got her polio 3 shot, she didn't cry, whimper, or sulk. She took it like a champ.

Happy Valentine's Day

Daddy's surprise cookies

We don't do much for Valentine's Day around here, but I have tried my best to instill in Lexi (and now Abby) that this is a time to do something nice for Daddy. Last year she asked if we could make him a surprise cake. We went to Publix and got red velvet cake mix, cream cheese frosting, red and pink jelly beans, red and pink sugar, and those annoying conversation hearts that Stefan loves. We spent the afternoon working on it while he was at work and surprised him when he came home. This year, with Abby being here, I decided to simplify the process a bit and just get the premade Nestle sugar cookies. I told her about it last week but told her to keep it a secret and she has been looking forward to making them for Daddy. She got some conversation hearts at school yesterday and decided she would use them for Daddy's cookies. When he was driving her home she showed him her hearts."I can use them on your surprise cookies," she said. I think she missed when the word "surprise" was defined for her. Oh well, here are some pics of the fun yesterday. The only casualty was Lexi's chin which she bumped on the countertop when she got excited about one cookie in particular.

Today, the girls got there gifts. They each got a red shirt that says, "My (Heart symbol) Belongs to Daddy", and some V Day jammies. Lexi also got some Starburst, some gum, and a stuffed puppy. Abby got some bibs and some new crackers. Here is Daddy with his little Valentines.

Lexism of the week

Current mood: indescribable

I think I'm going to start something new on my little space on the world wide web. I'm going to start a weekly posting of Lexisms because they are so frequent lately. So today is my first post of said Lexisms. This story took place on Sunday.

Sunday afternoon I asked Stefan if it would be okay if I went to the gym (normally I don't go on the weekend but I felt the need for an extra visit). He said it would be fine and that he would just take the girls to his parents' house while I was gone. Abby was sleeping, so I killed some time so that we could leave at the same time to have the timing right. Already dressed to go in my gym clothes and a zip front hooded sweatshirt, I sat with Lexi at the kitchen table and painted her fingernails and toenails. Here comes the Lexism...

Lexi asked me, "Mommy, do you have another baby in your tummy?"

Taken off guard, I responded, "No Lexi, why would you ask such a thing?"

"Because your tummy is so big," she replied with much emphasis on the word "big".

Stefan fell out in hysterics. Meanwhile, I was mortified. I guess it's a good thing I already planned on going to the gym.

Lexisms

Current mood: amused

Lexi's first crush

A while ago Lexi attended the birthday party of a little boy in her class named Ethan. When he saw her show up, he gave her a big hug and a crush was born. When he was tearing through his presents, he didn't stop to see who gave him what. He did, however, stop to open Lexi's and thank her profusely for an art kit and educational toys (not the normal reaction from a boy). Anyway, Lexi has mentioned him numerous times since then. He goes to the same centers/stations during their creative time at school and sits next to her during lunch and snack.

Tuesday, I did Lexi's hair in two french braids - not an unusual occurrence but you'll understand in a minute. This morning she asked me to do her hair in braids again to which I obliged. While twisting and braiding I asked her why the special request.

"Because Ethan said he liked it," she replied.

Lexi's allowance,a responsible choice, and Scrooge...err Daddy

Lexi gets an allowance - not much, but enough for what she is able to contribute around the house. The main purpose is to teach her that everything costs money and also the lesson of saving your money for the things you want.

A couple of weeks ago, she and I were shopping Wal-Mart and she saw a Sleeping Beauty lamp that she wanted for her room. It cost $15 and she didn't have enough money at the time so I told her to save her allowance for a little longer and she would be able to buy it if she chose to.

Well, this Friday her allowance tallied up to $15 and I told her so. Her first reaction?

"I can buy my Sleeping Beauty lamp!"

I took her shopping Sunday, but the Wal-Mart we went to was sold out of the lamps. She decided she wanted to look in the toy section. I found other princess lamps there, but it was not what she wanted at that point after seeing the abundance of toys that she could buy for $15. After striking out there, we moved on to Target where she purchased a My Little Pony toy.

Today, Stefan and I were shopping at another Wal-Mart and I spotted the lamp she wanted and it was on clearance for $7. I picked it up deciding to put it away for another occasion. When picking Lexi up from school I told her about the lamp being on sale. When she came home to a Valentine's card from my parents containing $5. I told her that if she wanted, she probably had enough to buy the lamp and she asked if we could go get it today. I told her yes and we got $7 from her piggy bank. I told her to pretend that Daddy was the store and she took him the $7. He, then, had the nerve to ask for an additional $0.42 for tax! Back to the piggy bank we went and got Daddy his darn tax and she got her lamp.

Immediately after putting it in her room she decided she would go upstairs and "study" by the light of her new lamp. Without further ado, here is the loot.

Ahhhhhh.......

This morning I woke up and took Lexi to school. I came home and watched TV downstairs to pass the time until I had an appointment with my wellness coach at the gym. Meanwhile, I heard Abby fussing so I went upstairs and brought her downstairs for her breakfast. Normally this is all she wakes up for before her morning nap. So when she was done, I laid her back down and I left for the gym. When she woke up and hour later she conned Stefan out of another breakfast. He said that he didn't think I had fed her because there were no clues (i.e. dirty dishes in the sink) that I had. This is because I ut them in the dishwasher. What a novel concept. Point being, Abby has figured out how to work Stefan.

In regard to my meeting with the coach...I love it when a skinny woman that has probably in the best shape of her life recommends that I (someone who has not had the time for regular workouts in years) work the same programs that she does on the cardio equipment. My goodness. Thirty minutes on the elliptical running a program titled "Gluteal 2" kicked my butt (pun intended) and she wanted me to do 45 minutes to an hour! I won't even mention what she thinks I should be doing on the weight machines. Everything is digital and she can track what I have done on all the machines and my progress. It's the first day and I already cheated 15 minutes of my cardio. I'm dreading the next appointment in two weeks. Maybe I should wear hand armor so it won't hurt when she slaps my hand for my cheats (this is the first and probably not the last).

Lexi's word of the day

Current mood: amused

In true Atlanta fashion, the schools closed for the threat of winter weather which means that Lexi was home from school today. Kennesaw, on the other hand, did not close, but I would not have braved the roads as early as was necessary for me to make my first class so I stayed home too. Whilst I was checking out the closures on TV this morning, Lexi woke up. I explained to her that there was no school today and that, if she wanted to, she could go back to sleep - which she did.

I guess later, Stefan got up with Abby and fixed breakfast for Lexi and they had a conversation in which he explained what the word "canceled" means. So, this afternoon Lexi and I are in the living room while Abby was taking a nap and the breaker for the kitchen lights tripped. I told Lexi to go try to turn on the light and nothing happened. Her response?

"I guess the lights are canceled, too."

Gotta love it.
