Happy Valentine's Day

Daddy's surprise cookies

We don't do much for Valentine's Day around here, but I have tried my best to instill in Lexi (and now Abby) that this is a time to do something nice for Daddy. Last year she asked if we could make him a surprise cake. We went to Publix and got red velvet cake mix, cream cheese frosting, red and pink jelly beans, red and pink sugar, and those annoying conversation hearts that Stefan loves. We spent the afternoon working on it while he was at work and surprised him when he came home. This year, with Abby being here, I decided to simplify the process a bit and just get the premade Nestle sugar cookies. I told her about it last week but told her to keep it a secret and she has been looking forward to making them for Daddy. She got some conversation hearts at school yesterday and decided she would use them for Daddy's cookies. When he was driving her home she showed him her hearts."I can use them on your surprise cookies," she said. I think she missed when the word "surprise" was defined for her. Oh well, here are some pics of the fun yesterday. The only casualty was Lexi's chin which she bumped on the countertop when she got excited about one cookie in particular.

Today, the girls got there gifts. They each got a red shirt that says, "My (Heart symbol) Belongs to Daddy", and some V Day jammies. Lexi also got some Starburst, some gum, and a stuffed puppy. Abby got some bibs and some new crackers. Here is Daddy with his little Valentines.
